What is 'robotfindskitten'? This is.
So what is this site? Pretty much a page to tell you about the identi.ca port of 'robotfindskitten'.
Wait, so how does that work? Well you send commands to @rfkrobot and it talks back to you. It's kind of like Zork or other text-based adventure games, only much less complex.
How do I start a game? Simple. Just send a message to @rfkrobot and a game will be created. The message could be your first move, or anything else for that matter.
What commands can I send? There are only a few basic commands. They are as follows:
| help, h | Displays the basic 'help' info (i.e. these commands) | @rfkrobot help |
| position, p | Tells you where you are in the game world as x, y coordinates | @rfkrobot position |
| look, l | Tells you what is directly next to you in each direction | @rfkrobot look |
| [move, m] <direction> [<distance>] | Tells the robot to move. You must give it a direction, and can optionally give it a distance. If you don't give the robot a distance, it will only move one space. Directions may be 'up','down','left','right' or a compass direction i.e. 'n' or 'north' |
@rfkrobot move north @rfkrobot move right 4 @rfkrobot m s 12 @rfkrobot west 3 |
Can I send more than one command at a time? Sure can! Just separate your commands with a semi-colon. E.g. "@rfkrobot move n 2; move east 3; look" - The other advantage in doing this is that it spams your feed less (and annoys your subscribers a lot less). If you have a 'look' or 'position' command, it will only respond from the final position that 'robot' ends up in.
How can I tell where everything is? Either send the 'position' command, or check here.
So what is the point of all this? To find kitten. I thought that would be obvious.
Does this comply with the RFK RFC? No, probably not. I don't care, though.
Who made this? @bobthecheese. Add me if you want to talk or shout abuse or whatever. I'm also on twitter, which I use more frequently. Currently. That may change.
